Note: A sportsperson with Level 5/4 norms who applies against Level 3/2 will be considered only for Level 3/2, and must undertake not to claim a higher pay level later on the basis of prior sports achievement. Unfilled Level 5/4 vacancies in a discipline will be downgraded and filled at Level 3/2 in the same discipline. The number of vacancies is provisional and may change.

Discipline-Specific Norm Variations

  • Athletics: Medal-winning performance in the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship may be considered for Level 3/2 and below; Gold medal in Open National Championship (Senior), Inter State Athletics Championship (Senior), or Asian Championship (Senior) may be considered for Level 5/4 and below.
  • Ball Badminton: Achievements in BBFI-affiliated events after 17-12-2025 till the date of notification will be considered.
  • Body Building: IBBF-affiliated event achievements after 31-12-2021 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and recognized International Federation certificates remain permissible.
  • Boxing: "Youth" category achievements on or after 25-09-2016 in International Championships are considered in place of "Junior" category.
  • Cricket (Men & Women), Level 3/2: Quarter-finalist in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter State Group Championships (except Plate group), OR participation in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter-Zonal Championship, OR participation in Senior/U-23/U-19 Challenger Trophy.
  • Handball (Men & Women): Achievements in events organized by Handball Association of India (or affiliates) on or after 05-09-2023 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
  • Hockey (Men), Level 3/2: Participation in International Tournaments (4+ nations, Senior or Junior) or semi-finalist in Senior National Championships may also be considered. Hockey (Women), Level 3/2: At least 2nd position in International Tournaments of 4+ nations may also be considered.
  • Volleyball (Women): Achievements in events conducted by Volleyball Federation of India after 02-01-2017 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
  • Powerlifting (Men & Women): Achievements in IPF-affiliated events after 03-10-2017 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
  • Weightlifting (Men & Women): New bodyweight categories effective 01-06-2025 will be applied.
  • Wrestling: Certificates for events conducted by WFI or affiliates after 10-03-2025 till the date of notification shall be considered.

Note: Championships must be conducted under the aegis of a recognized International/National Sports Federation and recognized by the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB); certificates from federations not recognized by MoYAS at the time of the championship will not be accepted. A sportsperson can be considered only in the event/position/game in which they hold recognized norms. Selection is further subject to fitting into the Western Railway Sports Association (WRSA) team.

  • Fee must be paid online through the payment gateway integrated with the application; no edits are allowed after payment.
  • Payment methods: Debit Card / Credit Card / Internet Banking / UPI, etc. Transaction charges, if any, are borne by the candidate.
  • Applications without fee payment will be summarily rejected.
  • Minorities means Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis) and Jains; a self-declaration (Annexure-A) must be uploaded, followed by an affidavit at document verification.
  • EBC means family income below ₹50,000 per annum; an income certificate (Annexure-B) issued by a prescribed authority is required.

Western Railway Sports Quota Selection Procedure

All eligible candidates are called for a Selection Trial. Only candidates securing 25 or more out of 40 marks for game skill, physical fitness, and coach's observations are declared FIT and assessed further by the Recruitment Committee. Candidates declared NOT FIT are not assessed further.

The offer of appointment is purely on merit. If two or more sportspersons score the same marks, preference is given to the younger candidate. No TA/DA/accommodation is provided for the trial; candidates must bring their own kit and four passport-size photographs, and may need to stay 2-3 days at their own arrangement.

How to Apply for Western Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026

1.    Visit the official website rrc-wr.com.

2.    Log on to the RRC/WR online application portal and fill in personal details/bio-data carefully.

3.    Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Card number (or 28-digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID if the card is not yet received).

4.    Fill in educational qualification and sports achievement details, mentioning the specific position/event/discipline.

5.    Upload the required scanned photograph (3.5cm x 3.5cm, JPG/JPEG, 100 DPI, 20-70 KB) without cap or sunglasses.

6.    Upload the scanned signature (3.5cm x 2.5cm, JPG/JPEG, 100 DPI, 20-30 KB), not in block/capital or disjoined letters.

7.    Pay the applicable application fee online through the integrated payment gateway.

8.    Note the Registration Number generated on submission for future reference.

9.    Take a printout of the application; it must be produced at the time of the Selection Trial.

Important: A separate application with separate fee is required for each discipline and for each pay level applied to. Multiple applications for a single discipline with differing particulars, or a single application for two or more events/games, will be summarily rejected.
